Science Experiments at home
Kitchen-cupboard science experiments give children a concrete way to see chemistry and physics at work — surface tension breaking apart in Milk Swirls with Dish Soap, carbon dioxide lifting raisins off the bottom of a glass in Raisin Dancing in Sparkling Water, or layered liquids refusing to mix in the Homemade Density Column in a Jar. As the adult, your job is to set up safely, ask questions while the experiment runs, and read the 'what's happening' note so you can answer follow-up questions honestly. The themes here are practical groupings: Rainy Day and Snow Day experiments assume you have energy to spare, while Sick Day experiments are quieter and need almost no setup.
What is here
There are 12 science Experiments activities on the site so far, in four sets of three: four for a situation (Rainy Day, Snow Day, Sick Day and Birthday Party). Every set has one activity for each age band where the format allows it, and the card on each set says how long it takes. Most science Experiments activities are marked “light adult help”, so plan on that when you pick one. The themes are listed in the order they appear on the homepage.
How to use these
Pick a theme that matches your afternoon, then scan the age bands — each card lists the target age range and how closely you need to work alongside the child. For a longer session, pair one fast experiment with one slower one: start with something that gives immediate results while you gather materials for the next. Pull everything onto the counter before you call the child over, and keep a dish towel nearby. Reading the 'what's happening' section yourself before you begin means you can answer questions without breaking the flow of what the child is watching.
